Using technology to support business growth

A technology foundation is the combination of systems, infrastructure, security controls, processes, and support that keeps a business operating efficiently. It typically includes network infrastructure, devices, cloud services, cybersecurity, data backup, and IT support. A strong technology foundation helps businesses scale more effectively, reduce disruptions, and support long- term growth.
Technology supports business growth by improving productivity, enabling collaboration, strengthening security, and helping teams work more efficiently. As organizations grow, reliable technology can help reduce operational bottlenecks, support remote and hybrid work, and provide the flexibility needed to adapt to changing business demands.
Signs that your IT infrastructure may need improvement include recurring downtime, slow systems, frequent support issues, security concerns, limited scalability, and difficulty supporting new employees or locations. A technology assessment can help identify gaps and determine whether your current environment is prepared for future growth.
A scalable IT strategy typically includes proactive IT management, cybersecurity planning, cloud services, data backup and recovery, business continuity planning, and a technology roadmap aligned with business goals. The strategy should also account for future staffing, operational needs, compliance requirements, and evolving security risks.
Managed IT services help support business growth by providing ongoing monitoring, maintenance, technical support, cybersecurity guidance, and strategic technology planning. By reducing the burden of day-to-day IT management, businesses can focus more on operations, customer service, and growth initiatives while maintaining reliable and secure technology systems.

Preparing systems for AI

Preparing your business systems for AI means ensuring your technology environment can support AI tools securely and effectively. This typically includes evaluating data quality, cybersecurity controls, cloud infrastructure, device management, user access policies, and overall system reliability before introducing AI-driven solutions.
Most businesses need reliable cloud services, secure networks, modern devices, data storage, cybersecurity protections, and collaboration platforms to support AI initiatives. The exact requirements depend on the AI tools being used, but a stable and well-managed IT environment is often the foundation for successful AI adoption.
AI systems rely on data to generate insights, automate tasks, and support decision-making. Inaccurate, outdated, duplicated, or poorly organized data can reduce the effectiveness
Before implementing AI, businesses should review data access controls, employee permissions, cybersecurity policies, data protection practices, and compliance requirements. AI tools may process sensitive business information, making security, governance, and user training important parts of any AI readiness strategy.
An IT assessment can help identify infrastructure limitations, security gaps, data management issues, and scalability concerns that could affect AI adoption. By understanding the current technology environment, organizations can develop a practical roadmap for implementing AI while maintaining security, reliability, and business continuity.

Building security into business operations

Building security into business operations means incorporating cybersecurity practices into everyday processes rather than treating security as a separate project. This includes user access controls, employee training, device management, data protection, monitoring, and security-focused decision-making across the organization.
A proactive approach helps businesses identify and address potential risks before they become major issues. Regular monitoring, security assessments, patch management, and employee awareness training can help reduce vulnerabilities and improve overall security posture.
When security is treated as an afterthought, organizations may face increased exposure to cyber threats, compliance challenges, inconsistent policies, and higher remediation costs. Addressing security early can help create a more resilient and manageable technology environment.or poorly organized data can reduce the effectiveness
Businesses can integrate cybersecurity into daily operations by establishing security policies, implementing access controls, monitoring systems regularly, maintaining backups, training employees, and reviewing security practices as part of routine business processes. Security should be considered whenever new technology, workflows, or vendors are introduced.
Managed IT and cybersecurity services help organizations maintain ongoing visibility into their technology environment through monitoring, maintenance, security guidance, threat detection, and incident response support. These services can help businesses strengthen security practices while supporting productivity and operational continuity.

Getting full value from your tools

Common signs of underutilized technology include employees relying on manual workarounds, duplicate processes, poor collaboration, unused software features, and recurring productivity challenges. Regular technology reviews can help identify gaps between what your tools can do and how they are actually being used.
Many businesses only use a small portion of the features included in their software because of limited training, lack of awareness, poor configuration, or changing business needs. Over time, organizations may continue paying for tools without fully understanding how to use them to improve efficiency and productivity.
Microsoft 365 offers tools for collaboration, document management, communication, workflow automation, file sharing, and secure remote work. Many organizations use Outlook and Teams regularly but may overlook additional capabilities that can help streamline business processes and improve team collaboration.
Yes. Regular technology reviews can help businesses identify redundant applications, security gaps, underused features, licensing inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement. A periodic review helps ensure technology investments continue to align with business goals and operational needs.
An IT partner can assess current tools, identify opportunities for optimization, recommend improvements, provide user training, and help align technology investments with business objectives. This guidance can help organizations improve productivity, strengthen security, and make more effective use of existing technology resources.

Protecting your business from data loss

Data backup is the process of creating copies of important business data so it can be restored if the original data is lost, damaged, or compromised. Data recovery is the process of restoring that data after an incident such as hardware failure, accidental deletion, ransomware, or a natural disaster. Both are essential parts of a business continuity strategy.
The ideal backup frequency depends on how often business data changes and how much data loss an organization can tolerate. Many businesses back up critical data daily or more frequently. Regular backup reviews and testing help ensure data can be recovered when needed.
Offsite and cloud backups provide an additional layer of protection by storing copies of data outside the primary business location. This can help support recovery if local systems are affected by hardware failures, ransomware, severe weather, theft, or other disruptions that impact on-premises infrastructure.
Regular backup testing is one of the most effective ways to verify recovery readiness. Testing helps confirm that backup files are complete, accessible, and recoverable. Without testing, businesses may not know whether critical data can be restored until an actual emergency occurs.
A backup and recovery solution should align with the organization's data protection needs, recovery goals, security requirements, and business continuity plans. Key considerations often include automated backups, secure storage, recovery testing, monitoring, offsite protection, and clear recovery procedures to help minimize operational disruption.

About D2 IT

What Our Clients Are Saying About Our Services:

★★★★★

"High Quality IT Service"

D2 is a trusted partner of Goodwill of the Great Plains. For over 16 years, they have provided high-quality IT services. They keep our systems and network running securely and productive across dozens of locations. In addition, D2 helps us use technology to better serve the community. One example is the Goodwill Career Cruiser. D2 helped define, test, and improve technology in the Cruiser, helping us extend our reach in remote service areas. They also help improve infrastructure. When we switched to a Point-of-Sale system, D2 helped architect, design, debug, and deploy it across 20+ stores. I'm delighted that D2 is our partner and look forward to many more years together.

"Professional, Respectful, Knowledgable and Friendly"

Empirical called D2 IT to help with a special project. We needed to image, configure, and deploy hundreds of systems out to multiple Empirical sites in a few months. Our internal IT team had their hands full with the normal day-to-day work. D2 IT provided us with a quote for time and cost. They met the cost commitment and completed the job faster than expected. D2 even improved the process, staging the work to minimize time and disruption at each employee's desk. All D2 personnel were professional, respectful, knowledgeable, and friendly. They collaborated easily with our internal IT team and communicated appropriately with all levels of Empirical staff, from the executive office to the front-line employees. It was a great experience.

"We’re looking forward to the next 10 years!"

It’s been an adventure for the last 10 years. I can’t believe that it has been that long. D2 is part of the BGHFS family. BGHFS is in great shape, compared to 10 years ago, due to D2’s efforts. Our confidence in D2 led to our using their services in lieu of an IT person. From there we grew a great partnership. We are fortunate to have a company like D2 in Siouxland. We feel comfortable moving forward into today’s cyberspace. We have sensitive client information. D2 has recommended and implemented security measures to help ensure that the client information remains confidential. We are looking forward to our move to our new facility. D2 is a trusted partner in this project. We’re looking forward to the next 10 years!

"They've been a valuable partnership!"

I’ve worked with the team at D2 for 10 years – a trusted expert in IT to help your company or agency with a thorough assessment. They are a locally owned company in our tri-state area and work across the U.S. remotely as well. Their team is top notch, knowledge is dynamic, service is excellent, and communication is very good! They’ve been a valuable partnership!

"I strongly endorse them to any organization"

Tony Olson and his team have consistently demonstrated expertise and dedication in providing IT solutions and support for Boys and Girls Home and Family Services. Their commitment to our success, technical proficiency, and outstanding customer service make them a top choice for any company in need of reliable IT services. D2 Worldwide continues to be an invaluable partner in enhancing our IT capabilities, and I strongly endorse them to any organization seeking a reliable and proactive IT partner.

"D2 is now my customer’s new IT service provider."

Recently, while working as a contract Chief Financial Officer for one of my customers (name withheld for confidentiality) we experienced a major system crash. It looked like we lost all the financial data. My customer’s then current IT service provider did not have the skills or resources to assist. I have and continue to work with D2 at other customers of mine so I called D2 to visit about them taking on a new client. D2, as always, was quick to respond that they would be happy to help and they provided me with an estimate, which I quickly approved. The D2 crew traveled to my customer’s office, diagnosed the problem, corrected it and recovered ALL financial data within hours and all for a fraction of their original estimate . As part of my help request I had told D2 that my customer’s server was completely inadequate and needed to be replaced with a server that would handle their growth. While D2 was onsite fixing the system crash they reviewed my customer’s entire IT system and from that review developed a replacement plan and quote within 48 hours. I approved the quote and D2 has recently completed the server/IT infrastructure replacement on time and on budget. D2 is now my customer’s new IT service provider.

"D2 helped me turn a liability into an asset"

My career has been built in the food industry. I had just sold my food business when a buddy of mine asked me to take-over and clean-up his flailing CE service business. I was available. He needed help. So, I said yes. There were many problems I had to address. One of the biggest was the IT system. That was a mess. The system was inefficient and regularly crashed. At the same time, we needed to split the business into two separate entities. This was another potential IT nightmare. Finally, there was a vendor that provided inventory control software that was out of date and was requiring me to pay for the update. I called D2 IT. They listened to my needs. They analyzed the overall situation. Then provided me with an estimate. D2 helped us smoothly and accurately pull the two companies data systems apart. They redesigned our old failing system to meet our specific business needs. They even helped program manage the migration to a new inventory control platform. They did it all on time and on budget. D2 IT is honest, fair, and fast. They are my IT service provider and technology partner today. D2 helped me turn a liability into an asset while allowing me to focus on the other areas of the business that needed my attention.

"They work to make us successful and serve as a valuable extension to my team."

At Siouxland Community Health Center, I have the privilege of leading our IT department. Our IT staff is made up of technically strong employees. And we work hard to keep up with the pace of technical change. But it would be foolish to think we could be experts at everything. That is why we partner with D2 IT. Their expertise in cybersecurity is a great compliment to our skillset. For the last few years, D2 IT has served as our IT systems auditors/assessors. They help us discover newly developed holes and vulnerabilities. Then consult with us to solve them in an efficient manner. D2 IT always creates a friendly and productive environment. They work to make us successful and serve as a valuable extension to my team. I'm glad D2 IT is our partner.

"We have depended on, appreciated, and recommended D2 many times over the years."

When I became managing partner of Williams & Company, our contract was with a one-man IT shop. This wasn’t working for our firm of 7 offices and 65 employees. Research, meetings, and much discussion led us to D2. D2 put a plan together evaluating our IT systems, determining changes, and showed us how to move forward. D2 showed us that, with their numerous and knowledgeable employees, they could provide us with the help we needed, when we needed it, not when someone could “get to it.” D2 became a partner in our business. They wanted us to succeed just like we wanted them to succeed. If I were looking for an IT company today, I would look to D2. We have depended on, appreciated, and recommended D2 many times over the years.
